Karl Jones

Karl Jones is from Dublin Ireland and has been living and working as a tour guide in Sedona for 4 years. He is an accomplished singer / songwriter / guitarist with radio and television appearances in both Ireland and the US to his credit.

Karl had a chance meeting with Thomas Banyacya, a Hopi Elder, in 1996 after an American concert at George Washington University in Washington DC. Thomas was on a speaking tour of the East Coast, teaching the public about Hopi spirituality and world view. Their meeting led to an invitation to Arizona to visit the Hopi Reservation, and Karl discovered Sedona along the way.

Enchanted by the experience and incredible beauty of the American Southwest, Karl relocated to Sedona from Ireland in 2002, immersing himself in the geology, history and wildlife of the Sedona area.

Attracted to the Safari Jeep Tour company because of it’s special connection to the Hopi and it’s focus on wildlife, Karl divides his time between his passion for giving Jeep tours, and promoting his debut solo CD 1916, with regular performances in Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Sedona.

Saffire
Sep 22 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Saffire

Saffire

Saffire is a straight – up quality Rock & Roll trio with a wide and far reaching repertoire.  Their sound is authentic and driving ~ featuring complex rhythms, souful melodies and spirited contrapuntal intricacies.  The music consists of a unique variety of tunes, from classical composers such as JS Bach, Leo Brouwer and Isaac Albeniz to R & R legends like Fleetwood Mac, Queensryche and Santana.  People are amazed and often comment on the original and mesmerizing flavor and continuity this wide array of music has.

Though Gina Machovina (classical concert guitarist and singer-songwriter) has only known TJ Brennan (percussion/harmonica/sax) since October of 2016, the musical symmetry between them is unmistakeable.

“I couldn’t have been more happy than the day TJ walked into one of my performances, began beating the table to an original of mine, and asked where my drummer was.  I told him that he (TJ) was a bit late, but could jump in anytime.”

A week later, the duo played a gig and people thought they’d been jamming together for years!  The show ended an hour late as the encores kept coming.

Of TJ, Gina says he is an incredibly talented and intuitive player.  “He senses what I’m going to play even before I do!  And did I mention how fun this is? ”

TJ is also enjoying this musical ensemble tremendously.  “When I first heard Gina, I was so impressed by both her classical guitar work and vocal quality on the covers and originals she played.  The music was just beautiful and rockin’ too!  And now, I’m finding out that she shreds on the electric guitar as well!  What an awesome bonus!”

Gina and TJ each independently played the Southern Cal circuit, TJ with several different Rock bands and Gina in her original heavy metal band Rising.  Gina went on to play as a soloist first in Southern Utah, then in Central CA, Oregon, and now in Northern AZ.  As a band in 2017, they are called Saffire.

Over the past few months, it has become blatantly evident that Saffire needed a bassist.   Al Hinojoza boldly stepped up, bought a bass guitar, and began learning the instrument, under the gruelling and often brutal instruction of wife Gina ~ and moving at Mach 5 none-the-less!  Thanks Al, we needed you!
